• Tricking Mmoboro the Hornets: Anansi took a large calabash (gourd) and filled it with water. He told the hornets, “You poor things, don’t you know it’s going to rain heavily? You’d be much safer inside this nice, dry calabash.” The hornets, grateful for his 'warning', flew right into the gourd. Anansi quickly sealed it shut. Easy peasy!

• Outsmarting Onini the Python: Anansi saw the enormous python stretching out. He started arguing loudly with his wife, “Who is longer, you or a palm branch?” Onini, curious, slithered closer. Anansi then challenged Onini, “I bet you aren’t even as long as this stick!” He convinced Onini to let himself be tied to the stick, end-to-end, to prove his length. With Onini securely tied, Anansi had his second catch!

• Capturing Osebo the Leopard: Anansi dug a deep pit and covered it with leaves and branches. He then waited for Osebo to fall in. When the fierce leopard tumbled into the trap, Anansi offered to help him out, but only if Osebo would allow himself to be tied up securely so Anansi could pull him to safety. Osebo, desperate, agreed. Once out, Anansi tied him to a tree, tight, tight, tight! Mi neva know a spider so strong! (I never knew a spider was so strong!)

With all three impossible tasks completed, Anansi returned to Nyame. The Sky God, astonished by Anansi’s incredible wit, kept his promise. He bestowed all the stories of the world upon Anansi.
